Dear OSCA Members,
New Zealand Chinese Association (NZCA) Auckland is organising a very special trip for young New Zealander's between the ages of 18-35.
Pāruru will take participants on a four day journey from Auckland to Northland. In Hokianga you will connect with the land and people who cared for the remains of 499 gold miners which were lost in the 1902 sinking of the SS Ventnor.
In Waitangi you will experience Waitangi Day celebrations as a group of Chinese New Zealanders. Along the way you will meet new friends, stay on marae, partake in the ceremonial return of a pou whenua to Manea, Footsteps of Kupe, learn tikanga and more. Registrations of interest now open. See website for more details – www.paruru.nz . Refer to the attached poster.
If you are interested to go on the trip, please register online ASAP through the Paruru website as registrations will be on a first come first served basis. Numbers are limited to 46 and there are 8 registrations already.
As a branch of NZCA, we are entitled to nominate 2 young people to be our representatives on this trip. Once you have registered online at the Paruru website, please email to osca@nzchinese.org.nz by 3 December 2023 your response to the following questions:
1. Your name and contact details;
2. What is your reason for going on the trip, and what do you hope to achieve/learn from the trip.
3. How would you like to use what you learn/achieve from the trip for the benefit of OSCA.
By way of background, we would like to recruit young Chinese who are interested in our relationship with tangata whenua, and to grow our youth leadership to lead us on developing this relationship.
Please note that this trip will be a very unique experience for those involved. It is heavily subsidised by NZCA. Any questions, please contact Teresa Chan at 03 4771069 or email nzca.waitangi@gmail.com
