Chinese Book Presentation and Launch of New China Eye Witness

Held at the Tower Room in the Dunedin Chinese Garden a presentation was given by one of the co-editors of the book, Richard Bullen. New China Eyewitness tells the story of how Canterbury Museum came to acquire the largest collection of Chinese art in New Zealand after a group of prominent New Zealanders visited the People's Republic of China in 1956. The book explores the work of Roger Duff, the Canterbury Museum director, Rewi Alley who gifted the Canterbury Museum probably New Zealand’s largest collection of Chinese art and the prominent New Zealanders who toured China in 1956 as a group, through their diaries, comments, and art. Well recommended. Purchase enquiries can be made to James Beattie at James.Beattie@vuw.ac.nz
